Careers Fair | My 2nd business event in United Kingdom

I love attending business events about the city where I live. When I do this I make new connections and get to learn how others are doing in business. In this article I will share about the Careers Fair that I attended. i must say its my first time to attend such an event. in my previous article I went to and business coaching event. I thought this one would be almost similar, opps why did I think that way when its an Careers Fair event. Learn more about what I have learnt at this event

What was Careers Fair about

This was more of a business exhibition with different companies offering job vacancies. I have seen such events in Zimbabwe but mostly in Zimbabwe it would be a company adverting their products and services. Each time I would walk towards a business table almost everyone of the business representatives asked me “What sort of job are you looking for?” . There were different company sectors: security, health, landscaping, marketing and so on. Honestly, my interest way in their services more than the job itself . As my initial go of attending this event was learning.

One thing that all the companies that have been exhibiting have in common is kindness

The company representatives where so kind, ever smiling and this made me comfortable to pay attention and listen to what they had to say. Most of their conversation was focus on recruitment asking about my profession and trying to match with their vacancies. Like I said earlier my intention was not job hinting but to learn how they do their business fairs, the set up and all. Generally, I have seen a lot of kind people even when driving on the road. More on this on another day.

Upcoming events

I regretted not inviting some of my friends around the area where I stay. I asked the even organizers when is the net event of such. The next event is going to take place in a different city which I will make sure I will attend.

What sort of jobs did the companies had?

The jobs varied from full time and part time employment in deferent sectors. One of the companies needed sales persons to promote products. They offered product training to whoever in interested. Another company was a health care company that was recruiting nurse aides. Another company needed security personals. There were so many companies here I have just mentioned a few.

What sort of qualifications are needed to take up these jobs

Each and every company had different set of requirements. Some needed one to have stayed in United Kingdom for at least 3 years. Some were providing the training this means they don’t really look much in your qualification but of course you need to have the basics at hand. Lastly this also depends on the type of via you have in the united kingdom.

What I have learnt from attending this event

There is a number of things I can share.

• The use of QR codes

Almost every business card or flyers that I collected had a QR code. I must be honest this is the first time I am seeing the use of QR in use effectively. I had to ask one of the company representative to help me scam the code. I thought I needed a special app to scan the code little did I know that I just needed the camera on my phone.

• Education and skill

Walking around different companies and engaging in conversations I realised the need to get educated. You may have a skill for work but the recruitment process will need paper work to proof your education and skill level

Conclusion

Travel has a way of stretching my mind. This event was eye opening. I will be attending more events in the future in United kingdom and will share my experience. Stay tuned.
